Medical Microdermabrasion is an extremely popular treatment used for the treatment of a variety of skin problems and for the maintenance of healthy skin. Medical Microdermabrasion involves a stream of fine micro particles being balsted across the face by a kind of “skin vacuum cleaner”. Movement of these crystals under pressure loosens and partially removes the outermost epidermal layer of the skin (see diagram) in a kind of “sandpapering” effect. In doing so Medical Microdermabrasion promotes vibrant, smoother skin instantly whilst encouraging the production of new skin cells in the deep lapers of the dermis.
It can be used to treat a variety of skin problems including:
- blackheads and whiteheads
- fine lines
- sun damage
- rough thickened skin textures
- acne prone
- superficial scarring
- stretch marks
- oily, dry or patchy skin
- superficial age spots and hyperpigmentation
Microdermabrasion is not suitable for deeper wrinkles, deep scarring, deep hyperpigmentation or broken veins.
There are some very mild microdermabrasion machines which can be found in beauty salons and which can be used by beauticians. The Medical Microdermabrasion System used in the clinic is a more aggressive machine and can have a deeper effect on the skin and is designed for Medical use.
